HT GIFA (Great Indian Football Action) is Delhi NCR's biggest neighbourhood football tournament for kids. HT GIFA is open to kids from class 5th-8th in the Junior category and 9th-12th in the Senior category.HT GIFA was started in the year 2014 in Gurgaon as an effort on part of Hindustan Times to bring the community together and promote grassroots football. It was the first neighbourhood football tournament with the idea that kids and families should get outdoors and have a chance to connect with people in their area through sports. This is exactly what happened in the first season of HT GIFA when teams from Gurgaon societies played with each other.
The response to the first tournament was overwhelming. As a result, in its second season HT GIFA was taken to South Delhi as well. 459 teams played in HT GIFA in the second season across Delhi and Gurgaon. Parents, neighbours, friends, all gathered on the ground and took to social media to support and cheer the kids as they played for their society or school.
Season 3 of HT GIFA was bigger and better than ever before with participation of 2300 teams from Gurgaon, Delhi, Noida and Ghaziabad. The pre-qualifier matches and training sessions were held over 3 weeks at 4 venues in Delhi, Gurgaon and Ghaziabad and drew large crowds of players and families to celebrate the spirit of sports. The new feature of wild card entries proved very popular and over 1.1 lakh votes were received to give teams a second chance to enter the main tournament. The final tournament was held over 2 weeks with 450 teams battling it out for the coveted title. An intense series of matches ended with 2 teams, Noida Demons and (junior) and Kkolar Sassy FC (senior) being crowned HT GIFA 2016 Champions.
HT GIFA is back with season 4.
